Athens, 14 July 2024 (MIA) – Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis in a statement published by Sunday's edition of the newspaper “To Vima” on the conclusion of the NATO Summit in Washington said that North Macedonia's state leadership systematically violates the Prespa Agreement, adding that the obligation to adhere to the agreement has also been mentioned at the Alliance's meeting, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.  

The Greek FM pointed out that Greece is a pillar of stability in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, having significantly built up its diplomatic capital thanks to the principled foreign policy it pursues.  

"The Greek side raised the issue of the commitment of all NATO members to international law and international treaties, which are the basis of the global security architecture. There was a special reference to the obligation to strictly adhere to the Prespa Agreement, the core of which is systematically violated by the new political and state leadership of North Macedonia," Gerapetritis said in the statement. 

In addition, he stressed that the landmark 75th anniversary NATO summit expressed confidence that the North Atlantic Alliance has done important work for stability and prosperity, contributing to security and peace in the world, an position which, according to him, is shared not only by the members of the Alliance, but also by the representatives of the European Union. 

On Monday, at the Greek Foreign Ministry, Gerapetritis will brief leaders and representatives of political parties that are part of the Parliament on topics related to the foreign policy.
