Georgiev: Everything commission will recommend refers to both North Macedonia and Bulgaria
Skopje, 9 July 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia will not undertake unilateral obligations, and everything that Macedonian – Bulgarian historical commission will do is based on reciprocity, Professor Dragi Georgiev said in an interview with Kanal 77 radio. “North Macedonia cannot make changes in its textbooks, and Bulgaria not to change anything in its textbooks. It is impossible North Macedonia to change an inscription on one of the monuments, for example, if it comes to that, and Bulgaria not to change it, to remain as it is. There is reciprocity here. It is two-sided, reciprocal. We received all the textbooks from Bulgaria as they received the Macedonian textbooks. All the obligations that will stem from the recommendations, for example for joint commemoration apply to Bulgaria as well, not only to Macedonia. The recommendations also refer to Bulgarian textbooks, not only Macedonian textbooks,” Georgiev said. Georgiev said that the public should not be concerned that if this process happens, changes will only happen in North Macedonia, and that there will not be any changes in Bulgaria, underscoring that the historical commission does not deal with identity issues. That is not the topic of the commission's work, to stop being manipulated that it will decide who had what identity a thousand years ago, Professor Georgiev said.
