Geer: Skopje and Sofia to invest efforts in developing goodneighborly relations

Bitola, 27 February 2023 (MIA) - European Union Ambassador David Geer said Monday both North Macedonia and Bulgaria have to invest equal efforts in the development of goodneighborly relations.

"Both sides should invest efforts and undertake commitments in good faith towards developing positive relations, and both sides should also make efforts to implement the Friendship Treaty so that it benefits them both," Ambassador Geer told reporters at the opening of "Europe House" in Bitola.

He said all countries benefit from development of goodneighborly relations in the contest of economy and creation of new jobs, culture and society as a whole.

"What matters is that all sides do everything in their power to create an atmosphere of making those relations as productive and useful as possible," said Geer.

According to him, it is always important to develop goodneighborly relations.

"What we want to see is that the country's assessment is based on progress achieved in the process of reforms and all efforts should focus on this - job creation, development of the energy sector, environment, rule of law - aspects that have a direct impact on citizens' lives," noted Geer.
