Skopje, 28 May 2024 (MIA) - At a handover ceremony in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, Afrim Gashi took over the post of Speaker of Parliament from outgoing Speaker Jovan Mitreski. Mitreski congratulated Gashi on his election.

“I express my gratitude to all citizens who voted in the elections and to all the MPs who supported me. Personally, I am committed to elevating the Parliament to a higher standard, serving all citizens,” Gashi stated.

He announced cooperation with, as he stated, all political parties.

“It is most important to strengthen the institutions, to mature as a state and as institutions,” Gashi noted.

Mitreski wished Gashi a successful term.

“I wish him success in his work, as well as to the Parliament as a whole, including all the MPs. The Parliament in a democratic country is one of the most important and crucial institutions where all significant processes for the state unfold. Therefore, it is very important in the following period to continue strengthening its independence, strengthening its oversight mechanism, transparency. Only in this way will we continue to earn the trust of citizens in the parliament,” Mitreski said.

He thanked the parliamentary services for their collaboration so far, for their dedication and professionalism, and also expressed gratitude to the media.
