Gashi - Dir: Support for Ukraine, promoting cooperation between parliaments

Skopje, 8 July 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Tuesday with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the country, Larysa Dir, discussing the situation in Ukraine in relation to Russian aggression, as well as opportunities to further promote parliamentary cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Gashi reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as efforts to establish a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the country, the Parliament said in a press release. 

He mentioned the fruitful cooperation between the two parliaments, on a bilateral and multilateral level, as well as the role of the parliamentary groups for friendship and cooperation. Gashi also underlined the importance of the Interparty Parliamentary Group of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia Supporting the Crimea Platform.

Ambassador Dir extended gratitude for the overall support and assistance from the country so far, expressing expectation that it will continue in the future.

"She pointed out that support from friendly countries is of particular importance for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. In this regard, the Ambassador briefed participants in the meeting on the upcoming international meetings, where top officials from our country are also expected to participate, including the Fourth Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, which will be held in November this year in Stockholm," reads the press release. 

Speaker Gashi and Ambassador Dir also discussed the European integration of the two countries and the possibilities for cooperation in this area. The two agreed that the country and Ukraine have excellent bilateral relations, with great potential to further promote cooperation in different areas of mutual interest.
