Gashi - Axinte: North Macedonia and Romania maintain good relations without open issues

Skopje, 2 July 2024 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi and Romanian Ambassador Monica Axinte held a meeting on Tuesday, where they agreed on the ongoing development of their countries' bilateral relations and discussed future opportunities for enhancement.
As reported by the Parliament’s press service, Gashi stressed that there have been many shared experiences between North Macedonia and Romania over the years. He mentioned that North Macedonia could benefit from Romania’s experiences, given that Romania has already followed a similar path in achieving its strategic objectives.
Gashi expressed his thanks to Romania for its support in North Macedonia’s NATO membership and the EU integration process. He emphasized that for countries aspiring to join the EU, it is crucial to adopt European values including economic development, human rights, and the rule of law.
Ambassador Axinte praised the excellent bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Romania, noting that there are no open issues between the two countries. She affirmed that cooperation will continue in this positive spirit and expressed support for North Macedonia’s EU aspirations. Additionally, she commended North Macedonia’s contributions to NATO and its assistance to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
During their discussion, the interlocutors agreed that North Macedonia has successfully completed the EU bilateral screening phase. They also highlighted the strong multilateral cooperation between the two countries, citing the International Organisation of La Francophonie and the Southeast European Cooperation Process as key examples.
