Gashi: Apasiev withdraws from list of signatories, Alternativa MPs to support no-confidence vote
Skopje, 10 November 2021 (MIA) – Alternativa leader Afrim Gashi said Wednesday the party’s four MPs will support the no-confidence vote at tomorrow’s Parliament session after Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev withdrew from the list of petitioners. “Apasiev withdrew his signature from the motion for a Government no-confidence vote and I can therefore confirm that Alternativa’s four lawmakers will support the no-confidence vote,” Gashi told a press conference. He added that Alternativa would not be a part of a Government that does not have the Euro-Atlantic course and goodneighborly relations embedded in its programme. “We will see how things develop later. The important thing is that Alternativa MPs support the no-confidence vote because we heard the voice of our activists and the people’s opinion. We have been bombarded these days and are proud to make this decision,” said Gashi. On the session outcome, he said that other MPs who have not backed the motion might also support it, adding that Alternativa did not favor snap elections amid a crisis. “Alternativa believes that early elections are not a way out of this situation. We think that a new government should be formed. We will see how things develop and who can confirm a majority to President Pendarovski. We think that early elections are not a good option amid an energy crisis and pandemic, and we are also close to the EU accession negotiations. That is why we believe that a new government should be formed swiftly, regardless of its composition. It is important for the country to maintain its Euro-Atlantic course and goodneighborly relations,” said Gashi. In case the no-confidence vote passes, he said the party would decide on the principles based on which it would negotiate with the future PM-designate. “Tomorrow is a very important day because we are facing a challenge for the first time as an opposition party to see DUI go into opposition. We would like to see this happen. Change is good, citizens want it, especially in the Albanian bloc, because it has not happened for 20 years,” underlined Gashi.
