Skopje, 15 October 2025 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi met Wednesday with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during which he noted that her visit to Skopje represents support and affirmation of the country’s firm commitment to remain on the European path, Parliament said in a press release.
According to Parliament, Gashi noted that for North Macedonia, as a candidate country, the European Union is not just a political or economic bloc, but also a commitment to values such as democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and solidarity.
The Speaker of Parliament said even when the country faced its greatest challenges, the citizens did not waver in their support for EU membership.
“Gashi stressed that the EU’s slogan ‘united in diversity’ best describes North Macedonia, while also expressing his gratitude for the EU’s Western Balkans Growth Plan, which promises a significant boost to the economic and social development of countries in the region and their greater integration in the EU,” Parliament said.
