Free bus transport of students to resume, Government decides to transfer EUR 2 million to public transport enterprise

Skopje, 31 December 2024 (MIA) - Free bus transport for students in Skopje will resume in 2025 after the Government decided Tuesday to transfer Mden 120 million (EUR 2 million) to the Public Transport Enterprise (JSP) by allocating funds from the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science.

"The previous authorities did not provide funds for this purpose and did not make such a decision for three years. I assure students that the new Government is keeping its promises and this is confirmed by the decision," Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a joint press conference with Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska.

Minister Janevska thanked the Government and noted that free bus transport is of enormous significance for students.

Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska recently said that the debt of the central authorities to JSP would reach EUR 10 million at the onset of 2025, and the City Council would have to discuss the issue of free bus transport.

Back in October, the State Audit Office said the Ministry of Education and Science did not cover bus transport costs for two years, and the Government did not take the proper decisions. Despite these issues, the free transport for students continued.
