Skopje, 22 August 2024 (MIA) – Law professor Ljubomir Frchkoski has stepped down as ambassador and resident representative at the United Nations in New York. He sent his resignation to President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova and notified the Foreign Ministry.
In a statement to “Libertas” website, Frchkovski says his resignation shouldn’t affect the functioning of the country’s UN mission in a technical sense, adding, however, it might affect the implementation of a project on promotion of dialogue and meditation to prevent genocide and similar atrocities (war crimes and crimes against humanity).
Frchkoski, who has served as both minister of the interior and foreign affairs, was appointed ambassador in New York in 2022. The decree on his appointment was signed by former president Stevo Pendarovski.
Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski recently has stated that Frchkoski had been invited to a meeting at the ministry over alleged financial irregularities detected in the diplomatic office, but the meeting hasn’t been held yet due to the ambassador’s health issues.
In the meantime, President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova’s office confirmed to MIA that Frchkoski’s written resignation has been received.
