France-backed initiative for settlement of Skopje-Sofia dispute, says Grubi
Skopje, December 2021 (MIA) – There’s French initiative underway to settle the dispute between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, Artan Grubi, First Deputy Prime Minister, has stated. “We’ve provided the answers to all questions raised by Bulgaria in the most constructive form. We’re waiting for the new government [in Bulgaria] to approach the dialogue involving these issues in a constructive manner and to reach a deal that opens the door to EU accession,” said Grubi, who also serves as Minister for Political System. He confirmed that there is a France-backed initiative underway helping the parties settle the differences so as to allow North Macedonia next spring to hold the first intergovernmental conference with the EU. Stakeholders, Grubi said, are optimistic about North Macedonia and Albania getting a positive signal at EU’s December summit for starting talks at the beginning of next year. In regard to yesterday’s message from Bulgaria that the country won’t change its position, he reiterated hopes for constructive approach from the Bulgarian side. “The new government must make a choice. We’ll communicate with the new government, a result of recent elections in neighboring Bulgaria. Hopefully, they’ll adopt a constructive approach, as we’re ready to find a dignified compromise,” Grubi noted. ba/mm/
