Skopje, 24 September 2025 (MIA) - The Macedonian Association for Solar Energy – Solar Macedonia, held Wednesday the fourth annual conference on solar energy bringing together over 100 domestic and international producers, experts, and traders. The conference was opened by Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska who stressed the importance of the country’s energy transition.
“Solar energy, as an inexhaustible potential, is key to ensuring energy independence. At the Ministry, we are working to support investments in renewable sources, align with European standards and regulations, modernize the electricity grid, and establish fair and transparent practices. This year, we are introducing a major innovation, for the first time we are implementing the law in practice and creating an annual plan for the development of the energy system. Through this process, the state is clearly defining its priorities for building new capacities,” Bozhinovska said.
According to the Minister, the plan would lead to more transparency and predictability, as well as legal certainty for investors.
“A plan is currently being drafted that will show us in detail the condition of our energy grid. At the same time, we are preparing a new Law on Renewable Energy Sources, modeled on the latest standards from the European Union. With it, we will clearly define our national goals for the first time, introduce new practices and regulations, and support regional integration to create space for energy businesses for citizens and companies,” Bozhinovska said.
The Minister stressed the importance of investing in batteries in the coming years to store energy and highlighted the role of businesses in the country’s energy transformation.
“In the coming years, we must begin investing heavily in energy storage, because without batteries, the grid is already reaching its limits. I’m sure you’re aware of what’s happening in Portugal and Spain, we don’t want that to happen here. This transformation cannot be led by the state alone, businesses have a duty to build and take responsibility by investing in sustainable practices and systems that protect the grid… That’s why this conference is important, because it brings together experts, companies, institutions, and international partners,” Bozhinovska stressed.
Ilija Nasov, the head of Solar Macedonia, said the association’s goal is to bring together producers, contractors, exporters, and traders, as well as to encourage ties between experts and researchers from a broad array of scientific disciplines in order to promote greater use of renewable sources of energy.
