Four stores that didn't comply with price freeze face heavy fines

Skopje, 18 March 2023 (MIA) — Out of 250 price audits in grocery stores nationwide, four found that store managers did not comply with the government’s recent price freeze, according to State Market Inspectorate head Goran Trajkovski.

He said an Ohrid store was selling white bread at a price higher than Mden 33 and three other stores — in Ohrid, Bitola, and Kichevo — had not cut their prices of pasta and dairy products.

They are facing fines of more than Mden 1,120,000, he said.

Trajkovski urged retailers to drop other prices, as well, as much as they were able to. "In times of crisis, we need solidarity, and not profiteering," he said.

Following its pasta- and dairy-price freeze introduced on March 16, the government is to decide next week whether to freeze the prices of sugar, eggs and rice. mr/
