Four more cases of whooping cough confirmed in North Macedonia, bringing total to 22

Skopje, 8 February 2024 (MIA) - Four more cases of whooping cough have been reported in North Macedonia, bringing the total number of cases to 22 since the beginning of the year, Commission for Infectious Diseases spokesperson Zlate Mehmedovikj confirmed for MIA.

A spike in cases prompted the Commission on Wednesday to propose declaring whooping cough epidemic in Skopje.

The country sees hospitalized children, as well as adults with pertussis, most commonly known as the whooping cough.

Health authorities however say that the situation is stable, and compared to other countries in the region no whooping cough related deaths have been reported in North Macedonia.
