Foreign Minister Mucunski receives credentials of new EU Ambassador Rokas

Skopje, 5 September 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski received Thursday the credentials of the new Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union, Michalis Rokas.

Mucunski noted that the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission begins at an exceptionally important moment for the country’s European future and voiced belief that through strong mutual commitment, decisive progress will be made on the path to the fulfillment of the country’s strategic goal of EU membership.

The Foreign Minister voiced satisfaction with the continued assistance provided by the European Union for the promotion of reform processes, stability and prosperity of the country, and stressed the country’s readiness to further enhance mutual partnership based on mutual values and interests.

At the meeting, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the importance of swifter EU-integration of the Western Balkans was emphasized. In that context, the Minister and Ambassador welcomed the recently adopted Growth Plan for the Western Balkans as a significant political and financial investment by the EU in the region and additional encouragement for the fulfillment of the shared goal.

Rokas succeeds Ambassador David Geer to the post of EU Ambassador in the country.
