FM Osmani seeks German support for Bulgaria solution, start of EU accession talks
Skopje, 4 October 2021 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani met Monday with German Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth during his visit to Berlin on Monday.
FMs Osmani and Maas discussed the preparations ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Slovenia, overcoming of differences with Bulgaria and developments in North Macedonia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
“It is a fact that Berlin is the leader of North Macedonia and the region’s European perspective. We have an important summit ahead and the support from partners such as Germany is necessary towards overcoming the differences with Bulgaria and unblocking the process, but also in bringing back European credibility in the region and thus repelling EU skepticism,” said Osmani.
Roth reaffirmed German support to North Macedonia’s European case, and discussions also tackled regional developments, next steps and reforms required to unblock the EU enlargement process.
“In terms of geography, the Balkans is not on the European periphery and therefore must not be on the periphery of the political focus. Our diplomacy is committed to building goodneighborly relations, regional cooperation and realization of the vision for a visible and attainable European future,” said Osmani.
