FM Osmani prepared to propose changes to work of joint commission on historical issues
Sofia, 17 January 2022 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani has said he is prepared to put forward changes to the work of the joint commission on historical issues. “I’m prepared to propose that we should start talking possible changes to the way of work, even the structure and composition of the joint commission on historical issues,” Osmani told Bulgaria’s public broadcaster BNT in an interview while the new Dimitar Kovachevski government took office in Skopje and ahead of Bulgarian PM Kiril Petkov visiting North Macedonia on Tuesday. Possible changes to the structure and approach of the commission will not be tied to concrete timeframe for results, he stressed. The Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia, Osmani said, shouldn’t leave outstanding issues in the region amid deteriorating developments in the Balkans. It was Bulgaria that raised the issue of EU integration of the Western Balkans in 2018, the Minister added. Commenting on the demand for people with Bulgarian identity to be included in North Macedonia’s Constitution, Osmani said the country is known for its comprehensive collective rights ensured for different communities.
