FM Osmani pays tribute to 9/11 victims at memorial site in New York
Skopje, 23 September 2021 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, who is in New York for the 76th UN General Assembly, on Thursday visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum to lay wreath and pay tribute to the victims of the 2001 terrorist attack. He offered condolences to the families of the victims and expressed support for the United States and its people, Osmani’s office said in a press release. “On the 20th anniversary of the deadly attack, the Republic of North Macedonia strongly supports the commitment of the international community to preserving peace, security and democracy and calls for shared solidarity with all victims of terrorism worldwide,” Osmani said visiting the 9/11 Memorial. As part of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, FM Osmani took part in several ministerial meetings and sessions organized at the UN as well as in the ministerial meeting of the Community of Democracies, organized by the presidency holder, Romania. Representing the only Western Balkans member of the Community of Democracies, Osmani said his country strongly supported democratic principles and values. The Minister also took part in the ministerial of the Alliance for Multilateralism, organized by the foreign ministers of Germany and France, where views were shared on the effectiveness of multilateralism, which is also a priority for North Macedonia. The country, Osmani said, as an active stakeholder of the international community will maintain the commitment while presiding over the OSCE in 2023, stated the press release. At the UN General Assembly, Minister Osmani also addressed the conference for support for enforcement of the comprehensive nuclear ban test treaty, saying the agreement is key in nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation, said the press release. Earlier, FM Osmani and his Philippine counterpart Teodoro L. Locsin signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Philippines is the 181st country North Macedonia has established diplomatic relations with. The top diplomat is also set to have bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
