FM Osmani expects meeting of coalition leaders to set next steps of constitutional amendments process

Skopje, 31 March 2023 (MIA) – What should come next in the constitutional amendments process is a meeting of the leaders of the political parties from the coalition and those who support the constitutional amendments, during which all aspects and steps of the constitutional amendments will be reviewed, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani on Friday.

“I think that the next step is a meeting among the leaders of the political parties from the coalition and those who support the constitutional amendments so that we can sit down and review all aspects and steps of the constitutional amendments. I don’t think we should be sharing our positions through the media at this point, but rather we should sit down and assess the situation, the possibilities and the priorities of the country. So, I expect all parties to share their positions at that meeting, and I expect that, without much debate, we will reach a decision on how to proceed further,” said Osmani in answer to a journalist’s question.

Asked if North Macedonia would receive a partner that unconditionally supports the country on its path to the EU after the elections in Bulgaria, the FM said he hopes that a political government will be formed in Sofia so that the two countries can return to dialogue and resume their cooperation.

“The fact that there was no political government in Bulgaria in the past two years was an aggravating factor, since we had no political partner with which we could agree on certain issues. And, usually when there is no political government, the conservative and radical elements of society are the ones that dictate the narrative. This, unfortunately, happened to us, and precisely those conservative radical measures kidnapped the relations and led to their escalation. I hope these elections will lead to a political government so that we can return to dialogue, to negotiations, on how to continue our cooperation in all areas of society,” said Minister Osmani. ad/ik/
