FM Mucunski meets new members of North Macedonia-Bulgaria commission on historical and educational issues

Skopje, 22 October 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski met Tuesday with the new members of the Joint Multidisciplinary Commission of Experts in Historical and Education Issues between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria and said that the "ministry is at the commission's disposal in the process of responsible and continued performance of its activities".
Mucunski said the commission's decisions and discussions should be based solely on scientific arguments, while fully respecting academic freedom. The FM also expressed his personal commitment for independence in the decision-making process, free of political influence and pressure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.
The Government elected the new composition of the Macedonian team in the commission on September 10, with Faculty of Philosophy professor Vancho Gjorgjiev as its chair.
The commission also includes Aleksandar Litovski, Mitko Panov and Dimitar Ljorovski from the Institute of National History, Nikola Minov and Sasho Dodevski from the Faculty of Philosophy, and Besnik Emini from the Institute for Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of Albanians.
The joint commission, comprised of historians and professors from North Macedonia and Bulgaria, was set up in line with the Friendship Treaty signed in August 2017.
