First meeting of European political community in Prague next month, North Macedonia to be invited
Paris, 19 September 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia will be invited at the first meeting of the European political community that is set to take place in the Czech Republic at the onset of October. Turkey and the United Kingdom “should also be invited” at the meeting that brings together leaders of the 27 EU members, candidate-countries and aspirants in Prague on October 6, MIA reports from Strasbourg. Heads of state and government will speak on an equal footing, which is very important for the EU neighborhood, says French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Laurence Boone. “At the same time, the meeting will serve as a high-level political discussion aimed to establish cooperation that relates to everyone, for example in the field of energy or security, but also as a way to send a geopolitical signal,” added Boone. According to her, Europe is, by itself, a carrier of a social model, of values that are unique in the world, but ones that are endangered nowadays. “Therefore, it is very important to open a dynamics of a united geographic zone. Afterwards, anyone can give the project form and content,” said Boone. Besides EU members, the Western Balkan six, UK, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, Moldova, Iceland, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein should be invited ‘soon’, a European diplomat has said. The European political community, a platform for political dialogue and cooperation, was launched by French President Emmanuel Macron and approved at the EU Council this June. “The meeting should include a plenary session, roundtables, bilateral meetings and a final dinner, ensuring discussion on strategic issues of common interest for the European continent, mainly the war in Ukraine, energy crisis and economy,” said the source.
