Skopje, 16 September 2025 (MIA) -- Another garbage fire broke out Monday night at the Drisla landfill, farther away from the garbage fires burning there last week, the Protection and Rescue Directorate said in a press release.

The fire broke out around 11 pm and the Skopje Firefighting Department sent a team of firefighters to extinguish it, the PRD release said.

"Heavy machinery already at the site was also activated to smother the fire," the release said, adding that the fire was put out an hour later and covered with dirt.

Previously, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski paid a visit to the landfill and thanked first responders.

"Thanks to the timely intervention of the services, the situation is stable and there is no danger of its spreading," he wrote Sunday on his Facebook page. mr/
