FinMin says no public debt reduction this year

Shtip, 4 October 2024 (MIA) - Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska said Friday she did not believe that the public debt would reduce this year, adding it would stand at 66 percent according to projections.

"This is the maximum projected amount. I do not believe it will reduce this year. We are working on a change of the concept and how to develop the economy through investments and higher economic growth. Of course, the public debt will gradually be consolidated," Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska told reporters in Shtip.

On the debts of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), the FinMin said funds will not be earmarked for this purpose in next year's budget, expecting an agreement with domestic banks on servicing the existing debt of more than EUR 100 million.
