FinMin: Inflation issue complex, solution will take time

Skopje, 4 June 2025 (MIA) - The issue with inflation and the average wage is a bit complex and will take time to be resolved, Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska said Wednesday in answer to a journalist’s question.

“We had two key moments that happened in the past and cannot be resolved overnight. The collective agreements in various institutions are one of them. We are constantly negotiating with them on how to proceed, but we must respect the obligations someone has accepted before us. The second moment, which worries me much more, is the fact that the average wage will continue to grow because there aren’t enough workers and private sector companies face a big issue with this. We are trying to do something about this through re-qualifications, certain legal changes, but time will be needed to conduct analyses,” the Minister said.

Dimitrieska-Kochoska highlighted the need to work in coordination with the Governor of the National Bank.

“Fiscal and monetary policy must be harmonized with each other. This morning, I had my first meeting with the Governor. We agreed to meet more often so we can have a coordinated, joint policy,” Dimitrieska-Kochoska added.

The Minister said the Government would continue to monitor inflation.

“People are receiving higher wages and higher pensions, and overall consumer spending is increasing. There is no doubt about that. Regarding inflation, we will see how things unfold moving forward. We know that measures have been implemented by the Government, and that aspect is being monitored. We will coordinate with monetary policy, implement strategies, and respond appropriately to the challenges ahead,” the Finance Minister underlined.
