Filipche: Virus spreading among young people, vaccination site to launch at state university campus
Skopje, 6 September 2021 (MIA) – Vaccination is going well, with its rate going up among older citizens. 53% of the population over 40 has been vaccinated, so now we’re focusing on younger people, who are less protected. The virus is spreading among them and they can infect their families. It’s been proven that vaccines are safe and efficient, so they shouldn’t be scared. This is one of the ways to curb the spread of the virus, Health Minister Venko Filipche said on Monday.
He underlined the importance of socialization among young people, adding that only vaccination will ensure that normal life is restored. So, the Minister stressed, authorities are now focusing on raising awareness for vaccination of younger citizens.
“On Thursday, a vaccination site is set to open at the state university campus, where the university’s medical team will vaccinate younger people,” Filipche said, underlining the importance of equal vaccination among all age groups.
Medical student Ernest Nikochevikj told reporters that he’s glad to see aspiring medical professionals have an opportunity to voice their opinions.
He called on fellow students to demonstrate awareness and responsibility when it comes to public health, get vaccinated and ensure hospitals don’t get full, to protect themselves and the people around them.
Filipche also told reporters on Monday that the Pfizer vaccine is recommended and safe for children aged 12-18.
“We’re focusing now on those over 18. 53% of people over 40 are vaccinated, as well as 44% of those over 18. We want to seriously increase the vaccination rate in this age group,” the Minister said.
