Filipche: Two Ilindens remind us of the persistence of idea for freedom, coexistence, overcoming divisions

Skopje, 2 August 2024 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche laid flowers Friday at the monument of the President of the Krushevo Republic, Nikola Karev, at the monument of ASNOM, and the monument of the President of ASNOM’s Presidency, Metodija Andonov Chento, in Skopje on occasion of August 2, Republic Day – Ilinden.

“These two Ilindens remind us of the persistence of the idea for freedom, for coexistence, for overcoming divisions, nationalism, propaganda, and of the idea for equality of all, regardless of their differences and beliefs. The free spirit of those who participated in Ilinden and ASNOM brought together all those who love freedom, justice and social equality, regardless of whether that fight was led in an age of monarchies or at a time of a fascist occupation,” Filipche said.

The SDSM leader noted that Macedonia is today a member of NATO and an internationally affirmed state.

“Our country is a country of hardworking people. Over the past years we managed to achieve international recognition and affirmation of our country, we joined NATO, we showed that people with great tenacity live in this country, ready to fulfill their own goals for a democratic, free, just, European country,” the SDSM leader said.

Filipche said politics must not obstruct the unity over the ideals of Ilinden and ASNOM.

“Politics mustn’t be the source of rises and falls, regression of the country and cause for new internal crises and divisions. This is a time in which our fight is for better lives for young people, creating democratic institutions and rule of law, respecting diversity and creating a society in which all citizens will be equal,” Filipche added.
