Prilep, 13 October 2024 (MIA) – We expect the prime minister to secure EU support, as announced, for his proposal on constitutional amendments with delayed effect, SDSM leader Venko Filipche said Sunday during a visit to a Prilep village.

“We expect the prime minister to secure support with a consensus in the European Union that the bloc will approve constitutional amendments with delayed effect. Once he secures that, we will support it,” he told reporters.

Filipche called on PM Hristijan Mickoski to name the countries supporting his proposal.

“The prime minister has been saying he has the support of some EU member countries, not all of them, for constitutional amendments with delayed effect. We know that the EU reaches decisions unanimously,” he said reiterating that his party has been calling for a parliament session in which the prime minister will name the countries supporting the proposal. 

At the same time, Filipche said, we are aware that there are two people who have been refuting the prime minister. “Namely, his EU minister has said that this proposal is unacceptable for the EU and the Ambassador of the EU to our country, who has echoed the same sentiment.”

According to the opposition leader, the ruling party VMRO-DPMNE has failed to improve the negotiating position of the country, only worsening the situation. The final outcome is the decoupling of Albania from Macedonia on its EU accession path, said Filipche.
