Filipche: Immunocompromised patients advised to get third shot, official recommendation pending for rest

Skopje, 6 September 2021 (MIA) – Immunocompromised patients are advised to get the third, booster dose, of the coronavirus vaccine, six months after being administered the second shot. We’re still waiting on official recommendation for the rest of the population, Minister of Health Venko Filipche said at a press conference on Monday.

Pfizer, he told reporters, has made most progress with studies and analysis, adding that vaccine manufacturer’s representatives have told health authorities at a recent meeting that they will most likely recommend a booster dose for all citizens, set to be administered six months after the second shot.

“Our immunization committee is waiting for the official recommendation. A booster dose has officially been recommended for immunocompromised patients and those on chronic dialysis six months after the second vaccine dose had been administered. People are free to sign up,” Filipche noted.

In regard to whether patients should get a third dose from the same manufacturer as the first two doses, the Minister said that so far, only Pfizer has called for the need for a booster shot, adding that its irrelevant which manufacturer the first two doses were from.

“That means that their booster dose can be administered to people who initially have gotten any of the other vaccines,” Filipche said.
