Khartoum, 19 April 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Fierce fighting in Sudan initially continued on Wednesday evening, with gunshots heard in the capital even after the start of a ceasefire at 6 pm (1600 GMT), according to a dpa reporter in Khartoum and eyewitnesses on Twitter.
The paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had announced a ceasefire from 6 pm in the afternoon, but few people expected it to be respected as - unlike on Tuesday - the rival Sudanese army had not agreed to a ceasefire in advance.
It was only a few minutes after the official start of the ceasefire that the armed forces announced their intention to adhere to it. According to the dpa reporter, the fighting continued nonetheless.
