Skopje, 1 December 2023 (MIA) – At a press conference Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, said the constitutional amendments are crucial for North Macedonia’s progress on the path towards the European Union and urged all political parties to support them.
“I call on all responsible parties in this country to take these necessary steps, such as the amendment to the Constitution, so that the process of enlargement and accession talks can continue. This is a responsibility towards the citizens, and it is crucial for North Macedonia’s progress on the path towards the EU. Enlargement has today become a geostrategic urgency and that’s why I once again wish North Macedonia a lot of courage, confidence and hard work,” said Fajon at the joint press conference with the Deputy Prime Minister for European affairs, Bojan Marichikj.
At the press conference, Marichikj also stressed that the adoption of the constitutional amendments is the only step that will continue the country’s Euro-integrations.
“In its Progress Report for this year, the European Commission conveyed a strong message that we need to continue and intensify the work on the path that we are on, and to strengthen the good level of preparation. We have progressed in 80 percent of chapters, and no regressions were noted in any chapter. This doesn’t mean that we’ve achieved everything, but it means that we have a good basis to build on,” said Marichikj.
