Faculty of Economics in Prilep marks 65th anniversary

Prilep, 19 September 2025 (MIA) - At the ceremonial academy celebrating the 65th jubilee of the Faculty of Economics in Prilep, Deputy Finance Minister Nikolche Jankulovski emphasized the need to develop modern policies and build an economy that is competitive, sustainable, and focused on future generations.

“We must build professional and competent personnel, who will learn both in lecture halls and through practice, to advance public finances and develop institutions that function transparently, responsibly, and in the true interest of citizens,” Jankulovski said speaking at the anniversary event.

According to Jankulovski, the government will focus on increasing salaries for teaching and non-teaching staff, boosting the science fund to promote research, and enhancing student living standards.

“Commitment, knowledge, and hard work produce results that drive our country forward and open doors to new opportunities and a brighter future,” he added.

According to Dragica Odzaklieska, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, 7,751 students have graduated to date, 667 have obtained master’s degrees, and 104 have become PhDs.

“Our teaching process aligns with modern scientific trends both domestically and globally, always serving the needs of students, the business sector, and the wider community,” she added.

The Faculty of Economics is the oldest educational institution of the University St. Kliment Ohridski in Bitola, noted Rector Igor Nedelkovski.

“Last year, we celebrated the centennial of the Tobacco Institute in Prilep, the first scientific member of our University. The Faculty of Economics remains its oldest educational body. Its strength, as with any faculty, lies in its students. Through them, it builds strong links with the community, civil society, and most importantly, the business sector,” he said.

According to Prilep Mayor Borce Jovcheski, the Faculty of Economics brings significant benefits to the city by influencing its development.

“It stands as a real pillar of education, science, and economic progress, not just for Prilep, but for the entire region and the country,” he said.

At the ceremony, the Faculty also awarded certificates of appreciation to individuals and institutions, mostly from the business sector with which it cooperates.
