Ex-minister Janakieski to be released from prison

Skopje, 17 June 2024 (MIA) – Former transport minister Mile Janakieski will be released from a Skopje prison Monday after serving time for six years according to court sentences involving several cases of the now defunct special public prosecution’s office.

The Skopje Appellate Court has decided that he should be paroled as regards the Titanic case.

In addition to this case, Janakieski was also found guilty by the court in the cases dubbed “Spanish Steps” and “April 27”.

In 2023, the European Court of Human Rights issued a judgement in the case of the former minister against North Macedonia involving the court ordered detention over the “April 27” and “Spanish Steps” cases, stating that his rights had been violated according to Article 5 of the European Convention of Human Rights.

The state has to pay Janakieski 6,100 euros in damages, according to the judgement.
