Even worse political crisis if no clear 61-seat majority emerges: president
Skopje, 10 November 2021 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski says the country is in a political crisis and it will be even worse if there is no clear majority. “It seems to me this political crisis could turn for the worse if we don’t have a clear majority from the two sides in their quest for 61 MPs in the coming days,” President Pendarovski told TV21. He says the loss at the local elections should not have been the reason for Prime Minister Zoran Zaev to leave politics, adding “the motives and reasons for his resignation are not only political but also deeply personal.” “I believe that regardless of the latest announcements that he would stay on for a certain period, his retirement from politics is a matter of months,” notes Pendarovski. Regarding his replacement, the President says “we all know there is none other than Zaev possessing more political capacity for making coalitions, managing processes and operations within the political party.” On tomorrow’s Parliament session, Pendarovski says what he finds important is a majority emerging from a democratic procedure, one that would have legitimacy both within the country and abroad. The President says most politicians don’t favor snap elections due to a dropping turnout and calculations by political parties.
