European Affairs Minister Murtezani meets Norwegian Ambassador Melsom

Skopje, 22 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Monday with Belgrade-based Ambassador of Norway to North Macedonia, Kristin Melsom. Talks focused on the EU accession negotiations, the European Commission's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, bilateral relations, as well as developments in the country.

Minister Murtezani expressed gratitude to Ambassador Melsom, noting that although Norway is not an EU member, it is an important friend and supporter in the implementation of the priorities and strategic goals for the country's EU integration, which is reflected in the “Nordic Support for Progress of North Macedonia” project, co-financed by Norway and Sweden, and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) - Skopje, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.

"The Nordic Support for Progress of North Macedonia project supports the Ministry of European Affairs in determining and prioritizing the technical assistance that is needed for EU accession negotiations and in streamlining short-term expertise in critical reform areas. Through this project, significant support was given in terms of the institution's coordinating role in the context of European integration, capacity building, upgrading the IT infrastructure and Training Center, translation of EU legislation from English to Macedonian and vice versa," the press release reads.

Interlocutors expressed readiness to deepen bilateral relations and maintain coordination with the Norwegian Embassy for the effective and well-directed implementation of bilateral development cooperation. ssh/nn/
