Europe House hosts launch for first travel guide to North Macedonia in Italian

Skopje, 24 October 2023 (MIA) - Europe House hosted Tuesday evening a book launch for Alessio Liquori's "North Macedonia: Nature, Excursions and Culture," the first comprehensive guide to mountain and cultural tourism in North Macedonia in Italian.

The EU Ambassador David Geer, the Italian Ambassador Andrea Silvestri, as well as the publisher Alberto Osti attended the book launch event.

The author told MIA that the purpose of the guide, which he worked on for a year and a half, is for Italians to get to know North Macedonia and for tourists from Italy to come here.

“To explore a beautiful country with beautiful people, with beautiful food. I think there are many opportunities for more green tourism,” he said, speaking in Macedonian.

He added that the mountains are very beautiful, similar to those in southern Italy. Nature is very beautiful and, according to him, it should be better protected.

He noted that there are young people who appreciate the nature of our country.

“But honestly, I think that older generations, not so much, as the young,” Liquori said.

EU Ambassador Geer told the audience that there are so many things to explore in North Macedonia, and the best way to do it, as he pointed out, is on foot.

Italian Ambassador Silvestri, who also spoke in Macedonian, said that four years in a country means getting an excellent professional opportunity, but also an opportunity to get to know the country better, not only from a political and economic perspective, and from cultural, historical, landscape and in general, in terms of hobbies and personal sensibility.

“That is the case with Alessio. During his experience here, on weekends, he explored the mountains of this beautiful country. In North Macedonia, wherever you look, you can see a mountain,” said the Italian Ambassador.

He also noted that this year, the Italian Embassy supports the Echo Mountain Film Festival, which kicked off on Monday in Skopje.

Liquori held the post of First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Skopje from 2017 to 2021. He will also attend the release of the travel guide at Goce Delchev University in Shtip on Oct. 25.

The book launch is one in a series of national events celebrating the Italian language as part of Week of the Italian Language in the World, organized by the Italian Embassy.
