EU-funded Europe House to be opened in Veles
Veles, 15 March 2022 (MIA) – Former Veles cinema ‘October 11’ will be readapted in Europe House to provide a space for young people in the city can organize events and discuss important topics. According to EU Ambassador David Geer, who visited Veles Municipality on Tuesday, three aspects are important for the city of Veles. “I’d like to mention three aspects and views of the solidarity on the part of the European Union to this country and the people of this country. The first aspect concerns youth in your country. We’re looking forward to the opening of the first youth hub, i.e. Europe House, in the former cinema in Veles,” Geer said. He mentioned there are three Europe Houses in three cities in the country, including Skopje, Strumica and Kriva Palanka. “These hubs are intended for the young people, where they can come to debate. The location is Veles is for young people in your country to be able to discuss important issues that affect them, and also discuss their European future. If you visit the other European Houses across the country, you’ll be able to see that many activities are taking place right there, and there are many young people who discuss innovation and have a lot of fun,” Geer added. He pointed out that the EU also helps with all the challenges that arise as a result of climate change, adding that there are plans for the promotion of green spaces and opportunities to implement the green agenda for a healthier and more active lifestyle of the citizens. As a third aspect, he noted that the European Union’s support is intended for the development of the Municipality of Veles, i.e. for promotion of tourism. Italian Ambassador to North Macedonia Andrea Silvestri, who accompanied EU Ambassador Geer on Tuesday, said it was a special honor for him to visit Veles for the first time. “As Ambassador Geer noted, we are focused on three points, which include implementation of the green agenda of the European Union, the youth, and the economic and tourism development of the country. I’m convinced these three points are crucial for the economic and tourist development which is in the interest of the municipality itself and of the citizens,” Silvestri said, adding that a meeting with Veles Mayor Marko Kolev was also held. Welcoming the visit of the two Ambassadors, Mayor Kolev pointed out that the Europe House will give young people in Veles a place to create and implement a lot of projects.
