EU reminds of importance of respecting Prespa Agreement

Brussels, 12 May 2024 (MIA) – The European Union regrets the fact that the new President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, did not use the constitutional name of the country during the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, said the European External Action Service (EEAS) in a press release.

“The EU recalls the importance of full respect for existing, legally binding agreements including the Prespa Agreement with Greece,” the EEAS said.

Earlier on Sunday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also reminded of the importance of reforms and the binding agreements, including the Prespa Agreement, for North Macedonia’s EU path.

“For North Macedonia to continue its successful path on EU accession it is paramount that the country continues on the path of reforms and full respect for its binding agreements, including the Prespa Agreement,” von der Leyen wrote in a post on social media platform X.
