EU perspective of Western Balkans remains Greece’s strategic objective: spokesperson
Athens, 29 September 2021 (MIA) – The European perspective of the Western Balkans is and remains Greece’s strategic priority and objective, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Alexandros Papaioannou told a press briefing on Wednesday, MIA reports from Athens. Papaioannou said any other perspective that “goes beyond the framework of the 2003 Thessaloniki Agenda” would be worrying for Greece, since the country remains firmly committed to its strategy for full integration of the Western Balkans, which is a one-way trip. “This is not tactic, it is and remains a strategic objective. There is no other way to highlight the importance we attach to this region, since the area’s stability is in the interest of both the Western Balkans and Greece,” explained Papaioannou. He said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias would attend a meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with visiting President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, next Tuesday.
