EU has received request for help from Skopje, says spokesperson

Brussels, 16 March 2025 (MIA) – The European Union has received a request from North Macedonia for assistance with dealing with the consequences of the deadly fire at the nightclub in Kochani, a European Commission spokesperson told MIA.
More details about the form of assistance are expected on Monday, the spokesperson said.
Earlier, MIA reported a statement by an EC spokesperson noting the EU stands ready to help, if requested, with its civil protection mechanism.
Several high EU officials offered condolences over their tragedy on Sunday, including the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
The fire at the nightclub in Kochani claimed the lives of at least 59 people and left 155 injured.
