EU approves North Macedonia’s COVID digital certificates

EU approves North Macedonia’s COVID digital certificates
Skopje, 19 August 2021 (MIA) – The European Commission on Thursday adopted North Macedonia’s national digital COVID certificate considering it equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, the Health Ministry announced. North Macedonia is the first country in the region whose COVID certificates will be considered equivalent and accepted in the EU, it is noted. “It removes all travel limitations, including additional testing or quarantine. In cases of necessity, such as public health protection, EU member states can take additional measures. Due to this decisions, travel limitations will be removed for double-jabbed people,” said the Ministry. The decision guarantees that COVID certificates issued by North Macedonia are considered equivalent with the EU Digital COVID certificate and North Macedonia is officially connected with the EU’s system through the COVID certificate issued by local authorities. In practice, it means that COVID digital certificate holders can have the same conditions as EU Digital COVID Certificate holders. “The European Commission’s decision is a recognition for North Macedonia and a confirmation of the measures taken to protect public health,” said the press release.
