Skopje, 30 July 2024 (MIA) - The country’s EU accession cannot be unblocked without the adoption of constitutional amendments, Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani stated Tuesday when asked whether he aligns with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski’s stance on delayed adoption of the constitutional amendments.

"I believe that, as highlighted by both the Ambassador of the EU Delegation and all our strategic partners' ambassadors on multiple occasions, this is a significant step and a serious obstacle that we must address and resolve as swiftly as possible. As you know, during the pre-election campaign, I speak now as a member of the 'Worth It' coalition, we underscored that this is one of our main priorities, and it is also listed as a priority in the Government’s program," Murtezani noted.

Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski recently stated that as a country, we are prepared to accept constitutional amendments in accordance with the negotiating framework, but these should come into effect only when the country joins the EU. This would provide us as a state with a guarantee that there will be no further new conditions imposed by Bulgaria bilaterally on our path to the European Union. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also mentioned that this is part of the pre-election program of VMRO-DPMNE and that as a nation, we have made too many concessions in the past.
