Istanbul, 11 November 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calls for a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, backed by a continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged area.

"Our first priority is to ensure a ceasefire and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid [to Gaza]," Erdoğan tells an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

"What is urgent is a permanent ceasefire, not a few hours of cessation," he adds.

Erdoğan calls for an international investigation into Israeli bombardment of Gaza, which he condemns as an "unprecedented barbarism."

"The Israeli government, which behaves like the spoiled child of the West, has to compensate for the destruction it has caused [in Gaza]," the Turkish leader adds.
