ERC issues more licenses for electricity production from renewables

Skopje, 20 March 2024 (MIA) - In February, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) issued licenses for electricity production from renewable energy sources with installed capacity of 29.16 MW, bringing the total capacity to 616 MW in little over two years.

"In comparison, one bloc of mining power complex (REK) Bitola has an installed capacity of 233 MW and thermal power plant (TEC) Oslomej's capacity is 125 MW, both coal-fired and defined as pillars of the country's energy independence. Over the past 26 months, new energy facilities with a capacity of 616.42 MW, producing electricity predominantly from the Sun but also from wind, water and biomass, have been integrated into the grid. Today we have a new REK Bitola or three TEC Oslomejs, which means that the energy transition is not a topic of discussion but a reality," says ERC president Marko Bislimoski.

The new energy capacities producing electricity from renewables are sufficient to cover the needs of 194,500 households with average electricity consumption.
