Ohrid, 8 July 2025 (MIA) -- Thirty-nine environmental organizations and a European network of 15 member organizations have sent a letter to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee asking it to inscribe the Ohrid region on its List of World Heritage in Danger, MIA's Ohrid correspondent reports.
The Macedonian environmental activists are joined in signing the letter by Albanian, Croatian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Austrian and British environmentalists.
The signatories ask that UNESCO adopt its draft decision at its 47th session taking place in Paris on July 6-16.
They express their concern regarding "the degree of ongoing destruction," "the urgent need of restoration of the region's natural and cultural values," and "the real danger of irreversible loss of its integrity and authenticity."
The vote on putting the Ohrid region on the World Heritage in Danger list will be the third time the committee has voted on this issue, MIA's correspondent notes. mr/
