Electricity price to go up by 13 percent if ERC accepts companies’ requests, decision around June 20

Electricity price to go up by 13 percent if ERC accepts companies’ requests, decision around June 20

Skopje, 31 May 2023 (MIA) – The Energy Regulatory Commission has received all requests regarding the price of electricity, and if they are accepted it would result in an increase of 13 percent, ERC President Marko Bislimoski told MIA.

In the coming period, the ERC will analyze the requests and announce a decision around June 20.

According to Bislimoski, Elektrodistribucija asked for an increase of the price of distribution by 32 percent, MEMO, the operator of the national electricity market, asked for 83.3 percent, while MEPSO, as the operator of the transmission system, asked for 53.51 percent.

“If we accept these requests then it would mean a 12.75 percent, or 13 percent, increase in the price of electricity,” said Bislimoski.

ERC will state the basis of the requests for price increases in the coming days, which, according to Bislimoski, are probably due to the increased working costs.

“We will see if it is acceptable for us or not. I’ve said in the past too, I am not really in favor of changing the price of electricity at this moment,” said Bislimoski.

Asked about the impact of the reinstatement of the 18 percent VAT on the price of electricity, Bislimoski reiterated that the ERC adopts decisions without VAT, and they will focus on the part they are regulating.
