Education Ministry website remains inaccessible following cyber attack

Skopje, 21 September 2022 (MIA) – The Ministry of Education and Science website is still down after being hacked on September 9. In the past 12 days the website has been completely disconnected and inaccessible. The Ministry said they are working on its reactivation, but did not specify when the website will be accessible again.

After it was announced that the website (www.mon.gov.mk) was a target of a cyber attack by Greek hacker team “Netwatchers”, the Ministry said that it is in contact with the National Center for Computer Incidents Response (CIRT) within the Agency for Electronic Communications, where the case was reported and from where they expect, with support from the Ministry of Interior, specific actions to be taken in order to identify the location and source of the attacks.

“In the meantime, the Ministry’s IT service, aided by external partners, is taking steps to enhance the security of the website, after which it will be activated again,” announced the Ministry on September 10.

The Ministry pointed out that there is no cause for concern regarding alleged theft of citizens’ databases, because the website, it said – “has no such background databases and it has an informational character.”

In the meantime, information regarding the Ministry’s activities is available on its official Facebook page. ad/ba/
