Education Ministry: Science a pillar of societal development, 2026 science budget at Mden 773 million

Skopje, 10 November 2025 (MIA) - Science in Macedonia is gaining prominence not only as a topic of discussion but also as a field of action. This is confirmed by the latest report from the European Commission on the country’s progress in the field of science, which reflects effective national policies and a significantly increased budget for supporting scientific research. From Mden 380 million in 2024, to Mden 680 million in 2025, and with a record-high budget of Mden 773 million planned for 2026, said the Ministry of Education and Science in a press release Monday on the occasion of November 10 – World Science Day.

The Ministry said the realization of scientific research projects has been stimulated at public universities, faculties, scientific institutions, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the business community through three calls for funding in 2025.

“Science is a pillar of societal development, that is why in 2026 the budget for science will amount to Mden 773 million, continuing the funding of scientific research projects, development of laboratory resources, participation in international scientific conferences and the organization of domestic ones, publication of scientific papers in impact factor journals, awarding scholarships to young researchers, scholarships for postgraduate studies in the country, as well as organizing study and research stays abroad. We are especially encouraged by the growing interest among young people to engage in science and innovation, reflected in the utilization of measures provided by the Education Ministry. Together with other relevant government institutions, we continue to support them in realizing their personal ambitions,” the Ministry said.
