Skopje, 27 May 2025 (MIA) - Twenty five primary schools will be able to introduce French as an elective subject in fifth grade next school year if there are pupils interested in learning it, according to an annex to the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science and the French Embassy signed Tuesday by Minister Vesna Janevska and Ambassador Christophe Le Rigoleur.
Minister Janevska said the deepening of cooperation aimed at greater promotion of French classes in the Macedonian educational system represents “an affirmation of the friendship between the two countries, which continues to develop”.

“We support the learning of French considering it is among the most used languages globally, and since we are a Government that encourages linguistic diversity. The benefits of speaking other languages are manifold. This enables us to build bridges between nations and cultures, and linguistic skills today are also an essential factor for successful participation in the labor market, just as digital skills,” Janevska said.
According to the Minister, “young people in Macedonia who learn French, through their communication, will also have an opportunity for greater affirmation of the Macedonian identity, language, history and cultural heritage”.
