Shtip, 16 January 2026 (MIA) - The second semester in all elementary and secondary schools will begin on January 20, said Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska on Friday.

"Yesterday, the Ministry of Health and the Public Health Institute said there are no obstacles for the start of the school year. I urge parents and pupils to refrain from absences, since analyses in the country and worldwide have shown that pupils who regularly attend school perform better," Janevska told reporters.

She also called on parents to stop justifying their children's school absences, because "they should attend school from the first to the final day, except when the state decides otherwise due to force majeure."
