Skopje, 16 February 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi is paying a working visit to Qatar, where he met with Labor Minister, Sheik Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri.
Durmishi at the meeting in Doha said the two countries have huge potential to improve bilateral cooperation, primarily in investments, because North Macedonia has the capacity to welcome foreign investors.
“Minister Durmishi said that North Macedonia and the State of Qatar signed an agreement regulating workers’ employment, in place since March 2012, with North Macedonia and Qatar marking a major progress in labor relations. It is in our interest to introduce a cooperation memorandum to regulate the areas of cooperation between the two countries,” the Ministry of Economy and Labor said Sunday.
Our country, said Minister Durmishi, has been monitoring the situation involving our people working in Qatar is some sectors, including hospitality, construction, healthcare, etc.
“To that end, a bilateral mediation agreement needs to be signed to regulate the recruitment of workers, issuing of work visas and stay in a facilitated procedure, the duration of the work engagement of workers, their rights and obligations, the obligations of employers, and the obligations of the two countries’ national employment agencies,” said the press release.
Durmishi said that the Ministry of Economy and Labor is working on improving the business climate in order to attract more investments in a bid to increase job creation and boost economic growth. “We’re working hard to bring as many investors from Qatar as possible, which would significantly improve the economy and living standards,” he said.
